Hello from the Spatial Media LBSzone...
To kick things off, let me ask you, Which Mobile Device / Smartphone Do You Want Next? Please sound off in this Poll.
Definitely a big week in location-technologies. First of all, finally the first Google Android mobile device (the G1) is officially announced... I'm thinking this is like an iPhone on steroids, providing an open OS (can you say innovation!) and almost everything one could want in a mobile device (except maybe video capture). Similar to iPhone, this device will help drive the awareness and uptake of mobile location-aware technologies BIG TIME! For more on Android and related items be sure to consult this section of the LBSzone - iPhone users or would-be iPhone users, bookmark this awesome archive devoted to this popular device! Interested in seeing just what kind of applications you'll be able to run on the G1... see here for some interesting ideas.
For the developer, loads of excitement this week as Forum Nokia is Calling All Innovators to take part and hopefully win some great prizes. Calling All Innovators challenges mobile application developers worldwide to create applications that will enhance the use of mobile devices in real world scenarios.
Not to be outdone, Sony Ericsson this week announced the call for submissions for its second annual Sony Ericsson Content Awards. Designed to honor outstanding achievements in mobile content development, the 2008 Awards are open to all mobile developers who have created content, applications or services (seven categories) for Sony Ericsson mobile phones.
And speaking of Sony Ericsson, the company has just today announced PlayNow plus - unlimited music download service - this one likely meant to take on rival Nokia and their Comes With Music effort - all you can eat music... nice idea but will it fly? Finally, are you into biking? If so then this recent road-test of mine using my bike, an N95, and Sports Tracker may interest you... enjoy!
