Hello from the Spatial Media LBSzone...
Welcome to our first edition of the fall season. By now I trust the kids are back in school, you're well rested from a vacation at the lake or ??? Now I guess it's time to get down to business and prepare for the busy fall conference season. This week we're please to finally share with you results of the Android developer challenge from Google. I found it very interesting, although no huge surprise that LBS aplications were the big winners in this competition. See here for a list of some of the cool location-aware applications that will be supported by devices running Android, many believe will be available early this year. Speaking of cool, mobile applications, just today we posted a tip on we.offset, a handy mobile app that will help you calculate your Carbon footprint and then enable you to offset your emmissions! This app comes via the very green, Nokia Research people in Finland. Finally, another great application tip I'd like to share with you is wikiloc, A clever app enabling users to upload and share GPS tracks via Google Earth. Even cooler, I messed around with the app a little and managed to round-trip my Nokia Sports Tracker tracks (captured via Nokia N95) via wikiloc and into Google Earth... very handy! Have a great week to all of you and stay tuned for the next LBS Zone alert, coming in 2 weeks once I return from a trip to Finland. On a side-note, do you have any comments, concerns, or tips that relate to the topic mobile geotagging? What works, what doesn't work, what gives Joe consumer problems with geo-tagging? I'm open to your feedback.
