In the news we have a number of interesting announcements of interest including powerhouse Geo-technology provider, ESRI, moving into the Asia-Pacific with a new subsidiary - ESRI Asia. Google has expanded their popular Summer of Code competition with a new event targeting the young developer - this comes in the form of their first open source contest for pre-university students. Speaking of contests, keep your eyes peeled for a winner in the next couple of weeks from Sony Ericsson. We've also got details of a new personal location device, a clever Panic Button for GPS smartphones, and a new Geo-location social networking platform accredited for Nokia's N95 and 6110 Navigator. These items and much more are listed below and available via LBSzone.com. A reminder... the deadline for submission of LBS Apps for the CES Attendee Choice Awards has been extended to Dec. 1. A Tip: Remember you can take LBSzone (and all our publications) to go via our Widsets! Your next LBSzone Alert will come late next week when yours truly returns from Nokia World in Amsterdam.
