Hello from the Spatial Media LBSzone...
We're a day early due to the Thanksgiving Holiday... enjoy the news and travel safe if you plan on hitting the road. Obviously,
Mobile Shopping is where it's at this year! To start, congrats to Slifter on their GPS Shopping app for scoring a win in the Tele
Atlas Maps In Apps Contest. The app is indeed cool, to say the least! I recall I first featured Slifter last Christmas (prior to their
fame) as an application to watch. GPShopper (www.gpshopper.com) is the first ever local mobile phone product search. With
big name retailers and over 50 million products, GPShopper and its revolutionary Slifter (www.slifter.com) technology allows
consumers to receive up-to-the-minute product availability, location and pricing right on their cell phones. Check out Slifter from
your handset by bookmarking www.slifter.com/mp. In yet another developer
contest, the WHERE Developer Contest Winners were
announced this week. The contest for GPS applications was run through the WHERE Developer Program. Congrats to
winners: okel, Proxido and Cell Soul. Yokel is a location enabled shopping portal that helps consumers find the availability and
pricing of products in nearby retail stores based on their current location. Developers looking for a helping hand from NAVTEQ
should look no further than the new NAVTEQ Connections Program - the program was announced just last week (see
below). Finally, the other big news this week comes from Mapquest who've launched their mobile navigation application to
consumers for a mere $4.99 a month - a nice price point as I've always felt the $9.99 monthly fee is simply too steep for many
LBS apps - my last mobile bill hit $150 and that's definitely enough for one month! MapQuest Navigator 5.0 was developed out of a partnership with
Telmap. Have a Happy Thanksgiving to all celebrating this week and safe travels!
