Glenn Hello from the Spatial Media LBSzone... A few interesting announcements this week for the mobile developer... heads-up as Nokia has announced details of their developer summit. Scheduled for April 28-29 in beautiful Monaco, this Two-day Summit Will Explore Global Application Distribution Through Nokia Channels, web Runtime and Browser Optimization, Plus Cross-Platform Development Using Latest Nokia Technologies. Of interest, a session by Michael Halbherr, Vice President of Nokia Location Based Services, who will discuss "Unleashing Innovation for the World with Maps." Some interesting research coming out of Frost & Sullivan... from the report, "the success of the iPhone Applications Store and the launch of the Android Market for the first Android-based device, G1, gave rise to the phenomenon of applications stores in 2008." No surprise to us with that although I'll be interested to see and hear more about the effect of offering apps at a cost as compared to a small fee. I recently stumbled onto a developer Twitter post that revealed a new app had received several hundred downloads in a matter of hours via a free offering, whereas a small fee for the same app generated relatively little interest over several days - indeed getting users to pay is still a challenge although I'd say Apple has the lead in that space! Finally, our friends at Symbian Foundation have shared details of some events of interest to take note of at next month's CTIA Wireless event in Vegas - a definite must bookmark for attendees. Have a great week all!
