Glenn Hello from the Spatial Media LBSzone... Topping the news this week is news from CommunicASIA where NAVTEQ has announced the final winners for this year's LBS Challenge (APAC challenge) Moving on, a hot tidbit this week... Interesting to see that on the heels of the official release of Nokia Maps 2, the company already has hinted at Nokia Maps 3, or at least what may be part of Maps 3... enter Location-based Triggers. Case in point, a filing at the World Intellectual Property Organization. Today NAVTEQ crowned Joikusoft as the winner of the 2008 APAC NAVTEQ LBS Challenge. As the Grand Prize Winner, Joikusoft received a prize package valued at $275,000 USD, including $50,000 USD in cash and $225,000 USD in NAVTEQ(R) data licenses. Joikusoft's solution, JoikuSpot, is a free location-aware mobile software solution that turns Nokia Smartphones into hotspots... interesting, I'll be loading that one later today for a test run! finally, for teh enterprise user and mobile mapping enthusiast, ESRI has this week rolled out the latest iteration of ArcPAD and ArcPAD Application Builder (the developer tool for customizing your field mapping apps). New improvements in ArcPad 7.1.1 enhance the user experience by increasing productivity and ease of use in the field. Those interested will no doubt be treated to several sessions on ArcPAD 7.1.1 at this year's ESRI User Conference August 4-8, 2008, in San Diego, California. Oh... and before I forget, just today Weather Underground has announced the availability of a new online product on its web site that displays flood alerts for rivers across the United States - the app uses real-time data from the USGS.
