Hello from the Spatial Media LBSzone...
Sorry about the delay but we missed last week due to travel... I'm sure you understand! Moving forward, we're coming off a busy several days attending the ESRI user conference in San Diego, CA. Loads of interesting Geo technology news and developments took place, perhaps most interesting to us in the mobile/LBS space was a demonstration during the plenary that showed us ArcGIS mobile running on the iPhone 3G S - See video. People were impressed and for good reason... having another platform to develop geospatial technologies on is very cool and will create a wealth of opportunities for developers... can you just hear the $$$$'s coming in? Speaking of the new iPhone 3G, if you're interested in scoring up upgrade or perhaps thinking of jumping on the iPhone bandwagon, check out this cool, un-boxing video provided by my colleague, Randy Noland (editor of MachineControlOnline.com) - great stuff Randy!
In the mobile GIS space I saw some awesome technologies in San Diego including sub-cm data collection + GNSS + direct write to ArcGIS now enabled by Javad (See More); Trimble was on hand showing off their latest mobile field data collection solution - The Trimble UtilityCenter - a true utilities workhorse! Not to be outdone, Magellan was also on hand showing off their hardware along with MobileMapper 6 + Post-Processing Extension For ESRI ArcPad 8 - Nice! Finally, we also managed to get the low down on ArcGIS Mobile and the latest from ArcPad 8 (See 10 Cool things) which provides for direct read/write to the Geodatabase from the field! For more info from the ESRIU I suggest you also check out the ESRIUC Twitter stream, and see also our ESRIUC Flickr Photo Page and ESRIUC videos that were live streamed (via Nokia N97) to our GISuser Qik.
A tip for those of you in the New York City area as Nokia has a special event taking place... Anyone in or around NY tonight, or knows anyone interested, it's the N97 24/7 Tour Grand Finale - see more on the WOMWorld facebook page for details!

Social Spotlight... The 2009 International ESRI User Conference #ESRIUC Twitter Experience - In 2008 I was actively Twittering from the ESRI UC, however, this year was a much difference experience, mainly because there was much more participation (from ESRI, conference attendees, and non-attendees alike) and much more attention was given to Twitter and to tweeting from the event. The Twitter hash tag stream on #ESRIUC was buzzing day and night from San Diego, with much interesting conversation, tips, and feedback circulating.
Video - Un-boxing the new iPhone 3G S smartphone - There's no question that many of you are current iPhone users, however, a number of people are still waiting to become eligible for their upgrade to the latest and greatest - the iPhone 3G S (with GPS).
