Hello from the Spatial Media LBSzone...
A hectic day here as I prepare for next week's journey to San Diego to take in another ESRI User Conference - this will be #11 I believe! Like many events, Twitter has become a valuable resource for many people as Twitteres (is that a word?) use the service to post what they are doing, list updates about events and socials, post news, ask questions, post tips etc... Out of curiosity I've put together a short list of Tweeple that will be Tweeting from San Diego next week - if you want to add some followers to your stream then this is a great place to start and if you or your company plan on Tweeting please Re-Tweet this message and be sure to also take advantage of the #ESRIUC twitter hashtag so others can find you and listen to your posts. See also this list of the Top 10 things to do at the ESRIUC!
Naturally, the ESRI UC is all about GIS, however, GPS, LBS, and mobile solutions will be present everywhere! I'm looking forward to the Monday evening lightning talk presentations, no doubt many of which will cover mobile, location aware solutions. I always plan on taking in the what's new sessions and I will definitely be checking out what's new from ESRI in ArcPad and the ArcGIS Mobile solution from ESRI. On the floor I'll be catching the latest mobile and LBS centric solutions from the likes of NAVTEQ, Tele Atlas, Magellan, Trimble, Leica, Aadpx, TDC Group, Topcon, 3 GIS and others - GPS hardware, data, and solution providers will be all over!
Some more ESRIUC event tips to share with you - please note that some of these events may be invite only so I suggest you visit the company's booth on the exhibition hall floor for more information.
Terra Imaging, La Jolla, CA (www.terraimaging.com) will be hosting a Hawaiian Beer Reception on Wednesday, July 15th at the Bondi restaurant (check out their www.3dgolfcourse.com); GeoEye & Partners are hosting their "Extreme Rock" reception at the Hard Rock Hotel on tuesday night (invite only) The company will showcase a number of extremes in their booth (2001), such as "Extreme Access" using GeoFUSE, "Extreme Terrain" in our AMDB and Terrain/Obstacle Databases, and "Extreme Authenticity" being demonstrated in HAWX, a newly released Xbox game developed by Red Storm Entertainment using GeoEye imagery. Finally, Merrick will be hosting customers in a party at Dick's on Tuesday night - again, wrist bands are needed and you can beg for one at their booth (#614). Other cool events to keep in mind at next week's event include Canada Night, the Federal User Group party, Lighning presentations at the Map Gallery, and the official Thursday night ESRI bash. FYI, I'll also be taking in a special event hosted by LizardTech on Sunday to provide details of something new! (more to come on that) Finally, I'll likely be stopping in to Dick's Last Resort Sunday night about 9 PM to meet-up with a few old friends and some new Twitter contacts - drop by and say hi and we'll have our own Tweet-up!
I have to run but be sure to follow the blog, our own GISuser ESRIUC archive, my Twitter, our Qik live video stream, and Flickr Photo Gallery for my updates next week from San Diego. If you want to reach me while at ESRIUC try direct Twitter messaging me via @gletham or use this special contact form.
