Hello from the Spatial Media LBSzone...
As summer progresses there's just no signs of any slowing down in the LBS arena. Those of you in New York or the vicinity, take note of an event this Friday at Columbia Business School. Focus on Locus: Symposium on Location Based Services is planned to run Friday, July 11, 2008.
Also on the topic of events, Trimble is hosting an online webinar tomorrow billed as the Trimble Utilities Field Solutions webinar - save the date, Thursday, July 10, 11:30PM-12:00PM EDT - Register Here.
For fun, here's a fun challenge that might put a cool N82 in your pocket... Set your hands free - with a Bluetooth headset, perhaps - and you're free to play, free to create, free to communicate. Also out of Nokia... how about Free, Nokia push email? Yes indeed you can download it and mess around right now... see here for more.
And back to New York, featured below is our update on a new, location-based party application that features a network of more than 2,000 bars, clubs, and lounges in the Metro New York, Jersey Shore, and Hamptons areas. Here's the premise... if 100 users are at a bar and the owner wants to push a new brand of liquor with a special, the service can instantly facilitate that by sending out a mobile drink ticket only to those users at the bar... nice and there's even Free Beer on Friday for users!
Finally, what a cool story out of Telogis. A group of four students from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, calling themselves Team Phoenix, have been selected as a finalist to compete in the Imagine Cup 2008 worldwide finals to take place in Paris July 3-8, 2008.
