Glenn Hello from the Spatial Media LBSzone... Welcome again to another location-based services round-up. To start, an interesting acquisition this week from Nokia as the company is purchasing Bit-side, a German-based location technology solution provider. Interesting move, particularly as Bit-side also has expertise in developing for iPhone (think Plazes for iPhone), and for the Android environment - the company developed the http://pixelpipe.com/technology for the T-Mobile G1. Bit-side is also the developer of the Panoman application for stitching images together into panoramas - more on this below. On the topic of privacy, I posted a piece on the blog regarding the use of geo-tagging and discussed how it seems many users may in-fact not be aware of just how much information they are sharing with the public... this is always a hot topic! Loads of news announcements this week including: the release of Sanoodi SMap for BlackBerry Storm, a Free GPS Route, Activity Recording Application, with Twitter support; QuickOffice Premier 6.0 for Symbian S60 is released; Phanfare rolls out personal photo and video sharing on the iPhone ; and DigitalGlobe and Telogis have teamed to Deliver Imagery to the Mobile Resource Management Marketplace. Job seekers, take note of new opportunities just listed today from Samsung... the company notes the successful candidates will be industry experts in embedded mobile device platforms (specifically Symbian, LiMo, Android, Maemo, Openmoko) - Good luck! Finally, thos of you interested in developing on the Symbian OS, take note of this new feature article over on SymbianOne - In this interview Richard Bloor talks to Jezar Wakefield about the past, present, and future of music on Symbian OS. Wakefield has been involved with audio technology for over 25 years. He worked on the initial development of Epoc32, the forerunner of Symbian OS.

Tip - are you searching GeoTagging Tools for your mobile media? Be sure to check out this GeoTagging Section in our industry directory - feel free to also submit any apps that we may have missed!

Is there A Downside to Geotagging? A closer look at Location and Privacy - An article I recently stumbled onto got me thinking.. indeed, with so many GPS-enabled and location-aware devices on the market these days (all the new S60 devices, iPhone, blackberry etc.) and the love of mobile users for sharing their media with the World (flickr, youtube, mosh, jaiku, twitter, facebook, etc.) do mobile device users really have any idea what kind of information they are sharing??

Early results on GPS Usage Poll show Bladckberry, S60, Garmin in demand - Some interesting early results from a poll we recently launched asking what kind of GPS people are currently using for work. seems Blackberry, Symbian S60, and Garmin are at the top of the responses so far - You Can respond to the poll question HERE
