Hello from the Spatial Media LBSzone...
2009 here we go... please excuse the delay in receiving LBSzone news updates, however, like many of you, we've been laying low for a couple of weeks in order to enjoy the holiday season with family and friends... I hope you did so as well! Now that doesn't mean that we totally shut down since mid-December... Indeed LBSzone.com and all our other tech properties have been constantly updated with the latest LBS, mobile, and Geo technology new along with excellent original feature content and application spotlights. In addition to LBS news updates you may have missed out on glancing over several feature articles that we published over the holidays. On the Symbian front we've pointed out some of the Top Symbian OS happennings from 2008 including details of the Symbian foundation, the release of a number of new devices, and some cool new LBS services like ViNE and Nokia maps 3.0 (see the spotlight below for more). We've provided an interesting take on social networking for tech business in this feature and over on sister site GISuser.com we've rolled out a rather details, 4 part feature that recaps the Top GIS/Geo Tech stories from 2008. Finally, we've also posted a recap of Top LBS news stories and feature content to hit LBSzone.com - part 2 is coming later this week... enjoy! Finishing off with a tip for you... the kind folks at Schmap have just informed me that they have released Schmap for Nokia (City Guides and Local Search) - Just visit www.schmap.com on your Nokia phone to browse the full range of Schmap City Guides - enjoy! Have a great day and a Happy and prosperous New Year wish to all of you from the Spatial Media Team!
A Developer Tip - Developers, take note of this exciting Nokia N97 widget competition being served up by the Nokia N-Series team... Good luck! PS... someone asked me "why all the Symbian content?" Well, simply put, Nokia is the largest computer maker in the World according to new figures, given that Symbian is their OS of choice and the recent move to Open Source, in my mind this is a no-brainer area to cover... although we will never dismiss Blackberry, iPhone, and Android!

SUGGESTED READING
Mobile Device Management Done Inexpensively -
Enterprises love the pay backs and efficiencies that can be achieved with a properly developed mobile application in the hands of their workforce. However, one item that is often overlooked in these deployments is how to effectively manage and support the mobile devices once they are outside the four walls.
In this white paper, Enterprise Mobility's, Phil Lachmann will present many of the problems that companies face when attempting to deploy and manage mobile computing devices, as well as some potential solutions.
Security: The Wireless Revolution is Here - Maintaining security while providing mobile workers with access to the information they need when and where they need it is complex. Protecting enterprise IT infrastructure requires a deep understanding of the risks associated with mobile applications, handhelds and wireless networks. This paper outlines how the Good wireless handheld computing system provides end-to-end security and how the Good System places security completely in the hands of IT managers and does not require users to set security parameters or make any security decisions.
Phone+ -
Phone+ offers readers the information they need to modify and expand their product base to serve a more experienced consumer. Each issue focuses on emerging technologies, operations, marketing strategies, industry trends and packaging of multiple telecom services.
