The

Editor Glenn Letham Hello from the Spatial Media LBSzone... Happy New Year to all of our readers from Spatial Media and welcome to our first newsletter of 2008. Kicking off the news today we have a reminder for developers and some predictions from a think tank. Developers, have you thought about Mobile Rules yet? You have until January 28 to take advantage of this innovative competition from Nokia - Designed for those innovative minds, the goal of this Global competition is to further drive the aspects of miniaturization, green technologies, and performance in Mobile technologies... Good Luck! And now on to some predictions - TRG Research has just today come out with some bold predictions including this one - the worldwide portable navigation market will grow from 50 million units in 2007 to more than 500 million units in 2015. The company predicts Tom Tom to secure a firm leadership in the PND space while traditional phone makers will also garner some big time market share in the space. TRG estimates 30M dedicated PNDs were sold last year and about 20M navigation-enabled mobile phones for a total of 50M units. Both segments will grow rapidly over the next few years but navigation-enabled mobile phones will start outselling dedicated PNDs next year - myself, I think it's crucial to differentiate these market segments, particularly in order to educate the consumer and to market to them. Regarding the statement, I couldn't agree more... think convergence! Once again, best to you and your developers in 08 and remember, it's not the killer app that matters but the killer experience that will rule!
