Hello from the Spatial Media LBSzone...
Please excuse the heavy AGSM focus in today's news, however, that should be expected given that the
annual AGSM conference is taking place this week in Barcelona Spain, resulting in loads of news for this busy
week. Hot off the press today, Navteq has announced the names of the finalists in this year's LBS Challenge (there's no better validation for
your LBS apps than this one! Final winners will be announced this spring at a ceremony in Vegas at CTIA
Wireless... good luck to all! Somewhat related, Symbian got a big boost this week as 6 licensees have
announced new devices running the World's most popular mobile OS. From one of the finalists, UbiEst competes for the Social Networking
category introducing a new LBS application for the consumer market: UbiSafe, a mobile client application for
family peace-of-mind - we'll be hearing more about this app in a couple of months I'm sure. Particulalrly
exciting this week is the official launch of Nokia's N96 - think N95 on steroids. This
converged device has it all and then some. Integrated GPS and maps, a whopping 16 GB of internal memory
as well as support for expansion via a 16 GB MicroSD card - yes, 16GB! I guess my "old" N95 won't be
turing heads any longer. Also launched in Spain, LG announced the LG-KT610, a sleek new device powered
with HSDPA connectivity and GPS navigation capabilities. Finally, the Nokia N96, Nokia N78, Nokia 6220
classic and Nokia 6210 Navigator all exhibit different location based and multimedia experiences from
pedestrian navigation to geotagging and movie viewing to video and photo sharing. Looks to me like the
standard is being set for mobile, connected devices to have Megapixel camera, integrated GPS and more
memory than your last PC. For more news archived from AGSM see here - have a great
day all!

Reports from Mobile World Congress,
Spain - Our colleague Richard Bloor is spending the week in Barcelona getting a first-hand update
on the latest in mobile technologies at the very cool GSMA event 2008. From Richard's Day 2 update... "One of the
problems with predictions is that, unless you are plain lucky, whatever you say can come back to haunt you.
Symbian's Q4 results did that for me at day 2 at WMC." And in an interesting update on Monday Richard
reports the following... "In many respects the biggest news in the Symbian world from day 1 of WMC had
nothing to do with Symbian OS. But, it was all part of the circus which descends on Barcelona each
February." Thanks to Richazrd for keeping us up to speed.
