Hello from the Spatial Media LBSzone...
Wow, talk about busy... I recently returned from a short trip to Maryland and DC on the week-end - it was amazing finally getting a chance to see the Capital for the first time (a few pics here). Now that I'm back I've settled in and have been messing around with the latest demo mobile device to land on my doorstep - The Google (T-Mobile) G1 - it's actually built by HTC! I've been getting used to the touch UI and full QWERTY (nice) and navigating the Android Market (think iTunes store for G1) and just the other night was likely one of the first users to grab the Android mobile application for editing Google MyMaps (see this article). So far I'm enjoying the device but have minor issues with the camera, touch to hit GPS, and slooow T-mobile network.
Making headlines this week, Sprint recently Launched Open Software Platform at Eighth Annual Application Developer Conference - interesting to note that Sprint points out that 7.1 million Java developers are creating desktop applications, but only around 3.6 million developers are creating mobile applications. Sprint plans on addressing this market with the new Sprint Titan platform for Sprint Windows Mobile devices. Speaking of Sprint, the company just today announced that it is enhancing its open approach by partnering with location aggregation platforms Veriplace by WaveMarket and WHERE by uLocate Communications to help developers create new location-based services for Sprint customers. From Ohio, our friends at TDC Group have shared details of how the Touch Screen BlackBerry Storm Now Runs ArcGIS Server. Using this app, users can view live GIS maps, GPS field map points with digital photos, and track vehicles and personnel using Freeance Mobile software on the BlackBerry Storm to save time, money and resources... nice!
Finally, on to the topic of social media, just this morning I had some great inspiration from some social media contacts of mine and as a result, came up with what I think is a pretty interesting look at the use of Twitter by Geospatial Technology companies. Included are a look at how some companies in our space are leveraging the power of social media, there's some tips on what you might want to do, how to get started, and a few Twitter tips and a list of some very cool third-party add-ons - if you're thinking about social media this is a must read and please, if you Twitter, consider nominating me for a Shorty! Oh, if you happen to be in the Boulder area maybe I'll see you at the Ignite event at CU tonight!
Let me leave you with a device tip... Rumors have it that the cool, Nokia 5800 Touch UI will be available in NY and Chicago at Nokia flagship shops for about $350! Nice! No date set

Spotlight... Is Your Geo/LBS Technology Company Really Taking Advantage of Twitter and the Latest in Social Media
- Just because your company is on Twitter doesn't mean that your company Twitters! Interesting discussions lately coming out of a number of camps - for example, see a recent Mashable piece on Twitter and brands. Twitter is a funny thing and it's a different tool to every user. There's no right or wrong way to twitter, although there is some etiquette and there are some more effective ways to Tweet. Indeed it does boil down to the individual behind the account as to how the account will be used and whether or not the information pushed/pulled via the Twitter is going to be one way, two-way, collaborate, or simply, robotic. Read on for a look at Tweeting in GIS/Geo Technologies, some great tips, pointers, and a look at how to setup a corporate Twitter. [Don't Forget To Follow LBSzone news updates via Twitter @lbszone]
Google MyMaps Editor Available for T-Mobile G1 via Android Market - edit maps on G1
- Recently we learned, via the Google Mobile Blog, the the team has made available a Google Maps Mobile MyMaps editor for the Android mobile OS. Read on for a first look at this mobile extension of Google Maps editor for G1 users. What this means is that users of the G1 (via t-Mobile) can now edit/create google MyMaps using their mobile.
Sprint Launches Open Location Platform with WaveMarket and WHERE -
Both platforms provide developers with simple, powerful tools to create and launch location-enabled applications, reducing the difficulty of certifying and on-boarding applications that use GPS, triangulation and other location services while protecting customer privacy.
