Glenn Hello from the Spatial Media LBSzone... Welcome once again as we kick off the week with details of yet another cool developer competition from our friends at Nokia. A while back Nokia put the call out to all innovators/developers via the 2009 Calling All Innovators contest - a global mobile developer competition designed to generate applications and solutions that enhance the use of Nokia mobile devices in real-world scenarios. Over 1,700 submissions were received from developers in 85 countries signaling a strong answer to Nokia's challenge to think big and create mobile applications and services that can help build a better mobile user experience... read on below for details of the finalists (winners to be crowned next month at Nokia World).

Moving forward, once again iPhone developers are getting our attention, just this week several interesting, innovative location-aware applications for the iPhone 3G have been announced. TomTom announced that the TomTom for iPhone navigation application can now be purchased in the Apple iTunes App Store. The TomTom app for iPhone 3G and 3GS users includes a continental map of Europe or a map of a region from Tele Atlas, and is available to download through http://www.tomtom.com/tomtom-app. On a similar note, CoPilot Live voice-guided navigation app is now available from iPhone App Store in North America, providing unlimited-use GPS navigation for throughout the USA and Canada for only $34.99. Running in portrait or landscape display mode, CoPilot Live brings full featured turn-by-turn navigation to iPhones, complete with automatic route calculation, easy to follow 3D map displays and clear turn-by-turn voice directions.

Finally, a cool application launched today for iPhone users comes from Aha. This Driver-to-driver network app (think crowd-sourcing) has been rolled out in several cities including San Fran, San Diego, and L.A. and has plans for future roll outs in D.C, Seattle, San Antonio, and Miami, FL. The app appears to have a focus on safety (no tiny maps to look at while driving), rather, users are provided with alerts to information that they request, like traffic congestion ahead, or perhaps a great sandwich stop coming up! Under the category of very cool is the ability to record and share comments on road conditions (See more). I you're interested in location more location-aware mobile apps be sure to check out our Directory (developers be sure to submit your app) - Remember, you can follow us on Twitter @LBSzone
