Hello from the Spatial Media LBSzone...
Welcome once again... today we kick things off with details of a couple of interesting mapping applications for the iPhone platform. The updated Version 1.3.1 G-Map for US West and East compatible with the iPhone 3.0 was released in July with new features and fixes, such as real-time turn-by-turn route guidance, pinch in/out function for map zoom in and out, and a list of exits and intersections to the destination. another company making noise recently is Waze - the cool, crowd-sourced mapping service for iPhone (first available on Android OS) - Unlike static maps and first-generation traffic networks, waze relies on a community of drivers to both populate the maps and provide daily traffic information. Speaking of crowd-sourced data, the INRIX Traffic! App is now available in the App Store - this Free App Uses Crowd-Sourced Information to Display Accurate Real-Time and Forecasted Traffic Conditions for over 160,000 Miles of Roads Across the U.S. and Canada. Finally, Integrity Logic today announced the release of Geology TX, the Texas version of the GIS (Geographic Information System) for the iPhone platform. Like its sister application Geology CA, which covers California, Geology TX contains a number of data layers which can be combined and moved in any desired way. As you can see, developers are flocking to the iPhone as a platform of choice for location-aware services and mapping apps... no doubt we'll be seeing much more of this over the next few months!

Location Technology Spotlight... iPhone Geographic Information System (GIS) app released for Texas - Integrity Logic has released Geology TX, the Texas version of the Geographic Information System for the iPhone platform. Geology TX contains a selection of geographical information in its internal database. It can display this information in 19 different layers. Each layer can be individually shown or hidden, moved up or down, and made more or less transparent. This allows an almost infinite number of possible displays. Each feature of most layers has additional information which can be displayed by tapping the feature. This brings up a list of all the data in all the displayed layers at that point.
