- Annual Awards, Sponsored for the Second Year Running by Leading Handset Manufacturer Motorola, Honor Innovation in Wireless Applications -
SAN DIEGO, May 8 -- QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM) , a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, today announced the finalists for its BREW 2006 Developer Awards, which are being sponsored again by Motorola, known around the world for its innovation and leadership in wireless and broadband communications. The BREW Developer Awards have become one of the industry's only global programs for honoring and promoting innovative applications and services created by publishers and developers in Europe, Asia, North and South America. Award-winners are seen as trendsetters who are shaping the direction of the wireless industry. Honorees will be revealed and honored during a special awards ceremony on Thursday, June 1 at the BREW 2006 Conference, being held May 31-June 2 in San Diego at the Manchester Grand Hyatt hotel.
The BREW 2006 Developer Awards feature nine award categories, which span a diverse range of commercial and pre-commercial applications from communications and information to games and entertainment. Finalists are judged by an anonymous panel of international experts, who evaluate the applications based on criteria such as ease of use, originality, marketability and overall "wow factor." In addition to application-specific awards, QUALCOMM will again offer conference attendees a chance to vote for the highly coveted People's Choice award, a peer-recognition accolade that honors what the attendees deem as the most compelling application of the year.
"The BREW 2006 Developer Awards recognize some of the most exciting market-makers and rule-breakers in the wireless industry, those companies that are pushing the envelope with applications that take advantage of advanced technology and focus on a high-quality user experience," said Mitch Oliver, vice president of product management for QUALCOMM Internet Services. "The BREW Awards can be seen as the launching pad for some of the most successful applications in the market today. Once again we are especially proud of the global reach and diversity represented by our finalists, an important proof point of BREW's impact worldwide."
