Bethesda, MD, 18-Dec-12 - The newest release of Freeway, the vanguard drive time analysis software from Applied Spatial Technology, Inc., is now available from Spatial Insights, Inc. Freeway is used as a stand-alone application by end-users, and as an embeddable API by developers. The standard 2012 versions for the US and Canada have been updated using the most recent TIGER and Statistics Canada street networks, dated August and September, 2012, respectively. The US Premium version was created using June 2012 vintage OpenStreetMap data.
Freeway is widely used in site selection to delineate trade areas and to analyze spatial relationships between locations based on drive time, drive distance, and as-the-crow-flies distance. Freeway uses coordinate input data to create drive time polygons and table matrices of drive times and drive distances between multiple origins and multiple destinations. Users have the flexibility to specify speed limits by road type.
Freeway has been an invaluable tool for our clients that are involved with site selection, trade area analysis and market potential research. The ability to model trade areas based on drive times is a considerable advantage over traditional radial-ring-based studies that do not account for logistical access said Don Segal, president of Spatial Insights. In addition to the stand-alone drive time software, the Freeway API allows developers to embed the drive time analysis functionality within other applications as well as the development of fully customized drive time applications.
