Smallest-Ever GSM/GPS Phone Passes PTCRB, GCF and FTA Testing For Use Worldwide
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.--June 7, 2005--Wherify Wireless, Inc. (Wherify has entered into a definitive agreement and plan of merger with IQ Biometrix, Inc. (OTCBB:IQBX)), a leading developer of wireless location products and services, today announced that its award-winning Wherifone(TM) GSM/GPS Locator Phone has passed a battery of key certification tests that signal the phone's readiness for worldwide service. These comprehensive third-party and GSM industry tests include the PCS Type Certification Review Board (PTCRB), Full-Type Approval (FTA), and Global Certification Forum (GCF), and certify that the Wherifone meets all GSM industry requirements and safety standards for operating in the 850/1800/1900 or 900/1800/1900 bands, and GPRS. The Wherifone, which allows families to stay in touch and locate each other, will be available in Summer 2005.
"Proven to be child-safe and senior-friendly, the Wherifone is now certified as ready for global service," said Timothy Neher, Founder and CEO of Wherify. "The Wherifone is the world's smallest GSM/GPS Locator Phone and provides a totally unique and affordable way for families with pre-teens, seniors, or those with special medical needs, to stay connected and in contact with each other. We're looking forward to offering the benefits of the Wherifone to service providers and consumers around the world."
About The Wherifone
The Wherifone provides affordable peace-of-mind to the modern mobile family. The slim, small and lightweight Tri-Band GSM cell phone (850/1800/1900 for the United States, or 900/1800/1900 for Europe and other markets) weighs under 70 grams and features incoming and outgoing calling, five programmable buttons for one touch dialing, a built-in two-way speakerphone, a headset jack, and a backlit LCD display. The absence of a traditional dial pad helps parents and caregivers manage the expense of out-going calls, and provides ease-of-use. The cell phone is supported by a Location Service Center which can be accessed 24 X 7 by telephone or the Internet to retrieve a precise location using Enhanced-GPS technology, which can be plotted on both street maps and aerial photographs. Wherify's patented integration of digital wireless and global positioning technologies provides an unprecedented level of location performance that does not require satellite line-of-sight, and can pinpoint a device's location with a high degree of accuracy inside most vehicles, homes or offices.
Small businesses can also use the Wherifone to manage and communicate with mobile workers, and to manage the location of small fleets of trucks or delivery vehicles and coordinate dispatch destinations with drivers. The preprogrammed one-touch dialing buttons also help the small business owner manage communications expenses. The absence of a traditional dial pad prevents workers from using the Wherifone for personal calls and incurring unauthorized expenses, while at the same time ensuring they can make necessary calls to up to five pre-defined locations.
