Stations was able to help assess the damaging winds and flooding rains
as Irene moved up the Eastern Seaboard. Here are some of those reports,
along with other impacts from this year`s first hurricane:
North Carolina:
Highest wind gust: 79.8 mph, Rodanthe
Highest rainfall: 11.23 inches, Camden
Six people killed
Irene makes landfall at 7:30 am EDT near Cape Lookout with 85 mph winds.
At Irene`s height, more than 500,000 people were without power, and 454,000 homes and busineses remained powerless Monday.
Two piers destroyed
Virginia:
Highest wind gust: 75.8 mph, Williamsburg
Highest rainfall: 11. 96 inches, Chesapeake
Four people killed
About 75-percent of central
Virginia was left without power, with more than 2 million people in the
dark during Irene`s track across the state
Two tornadoes reported causing property damage
Maryland:
Highest wind gust: 85.3 mph, Sudlersville
Highest rainfall: 11.17 inches, Camp Springs
One person killed
Chesapeake Bay Bridge closed due to high winds
Delaware:
Highest wind gust: 64.5 mph, Lewes
Highest rainfall: 7.68 inches, Little Creek
A tornado severely damages home in Lewes
Wilmington received a record
rainfall of 1.56 inches for August 28, which contributed to a two-day
total of 6.94 inches. This ranks as the 5th highest two-day rainfall for
Wilmington.
Pennsylvania:
Allentown received a
record 3.37 inches, which set a daily rainfall record for August 28 and
raised the monthly total to 13.47 inches; a new all-time monthly high
and August rainfall record.
Highest wind gust: 59 mph, Lehighton
Highest rainfall: 8.56 inches, Norristown

New Jersey:

Half of the state without power (285,000 people)

Worst hurricane since 1991`s Bob, which hit the state directly
Massachusetts:
One person killed.
Highest wind gust: 71 mph, Forestdale
Highest rainfall: 6.31 inches, Adams
Vermont:
Highest wind gust: 60.7 mph, Stowe

Severe Flooding reported in several locations, including Margaretville

Officials say that at least a dozen towns are cut off, with roads and bridges washed out by Irene`s flooding rains.

Highest rainfall: 4.66 inches, Brownfield
More than 204,000 homes and businesses were left without power
