GeoVector and NEC Team Up to Deliver Mobile Search Solutions to Japan's Mobile Application Market PDF Print E-mail

Partnership enables mobile content providers to serve end users who simply point mobile phones at buildings, retailers, restaurants, hotels or billboards.

NEC will implement the Japanese version of GeoVector's GVidTM spatial search engine platform, as well as market GeoVector's enabling service to Japanese content providers.

San Francisco, CA - GeoVector Corporation, the world leader in pointing based search solutions, today announced a partnership with NEC Magnus Communications, Ltd. (NEC), a leading Japanese systems integrator and subsidiary of NEC Corporation (NASDAQ: NIPNY).  This new partnership enables Japanese mobile content providers to offer information to end users who simply point their mobile phones at a building, retailer, restaurant, hotel or billboard advertisement.

Just like using a mouse to click on your computer screen to retrieve information, now mobile phone users in Japan can Click on the Real World ® using their mobile phone, aided by GPS and a built-in compass.  GeoVector's unique new technology makes a variety of innovative content-based applications and M-commerce transactions possible.

NEC will implement the Japanese version of GeoVector's GVidTM spatial search engine platform, as well as market GeoVector's enabling service to Japanese content providers.  Through its partnership with NEC, GeoVector offers service and support to both enterprise and consumer mobile phone application providers.  GeoVector's patented technology can now serve any Japanese company who provides location-related content such as real estate or security applications, entertainment and shopping guides, advertising, maps and games.

"Partnering with GeoVector is an opportunity for us to work in a new and exciting field, with tremendous market potential, changing the way users interact with the world around them," said Dr. Masao Hibino, President and CEO of NEC Magnus Communications Ltd.

"We are very impressed with the knowledge and experience the NEC team brings in regards to telecommunications and location based systems," said John Ellenby, President of GeoVector. "Not only does NEC help build some of the world's best systems, but they also understand the importance of enabling exciting content."

The first results of this partnership came in January, when GeoVector announced that its technology will enable Japan's Mapion Local Search.  Together with NEC, GeoVector enables Mapion users to walk down virtually any Japanese street, point their mobile phone at over 700,000 buildings, merchants or historical sites, to instantly retrieve information on what they are looking at, or find what they are looking for.

"Dozens of new applications are now being planned," added Ellenby.  "With the real world as your desktop, the potential is enormous."
