SAMSys showcasing Gen 2 RFID readers at the Metro Group RFID Congress PDF Print E-mail
Written by SAMSys
Tuesday, 07 June 2005

TORONTO, June 7 - SAMSys Technologies Inc. (SMY: TSX), an
international provider of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) hardware
solutions, will be showcasing its new Gen 2 ready RFID readers at the Metro
Group RFID Congress in Cologne, Germany on June 8-9.

These readers are the first of its products capable of reading tags that conform to the new EPC Generation Two (Gen 2) standard.

The MP9320 v2.8 reader is the latest addition to the SAMSys family of
multi-protocol, multi-regional, RFID readers that, in addition to Gen 2,
supports the full array of legacy UHF protocols; e.g., EPC Class 0 and 0+;
EPC Class 1, ISO 18000-6A, ISO 18000-6B, Philips UCODE 1.19, EM 4222 and
Intellitag. Adding support for the EPC Gen 2 tag protocol represents the next
step in the migration path to the emerging global standard tag protocol; and
in the ability to support this new standard alongside existing legacy
installations. The MP9320 reader has already been endorsed by many current
adopters of RFID technology such as the U.S. Dept. of Defense (DoD), and other
major retailers and consumer packaged goods companies.
The SAMSys MP9310 embedded reader module, adopted by many leading printer
and label applicator companies for its multi-protocol, multi-regional
capability, is also Gen 2 ready in addition to supporting the full array of
legacy protocols.
"It is imperative to provide customers with a smooth migration path to
the next generation of tag products, and our True Blue Gen 2 program marks the
first effort in the market to provide that service," said Cliff Horwitz,
chairman, president and CEO of SAMSys. "It is our assurance of full
interoperability between EPC Global, ISO and legacy UHF RFID tags, and a
valuable tool for facilitating the adoption of the Gen 2 standard."
A True Blue Gen 2 Upgrade is also available for existing SAMSys
MP9320 v2.7 readers. The kit is intended to streamline adoption of the Gen 2
standard by equipping existing SAMSys reader users with the tools to prepare
for Gen 2 deployments.
More information is available about the complete family of SAMSys True
Blue Gen 2 readers by visiting www.samsys.com, or calling 919-281-1541 or
toll free at 1-877-367-4342.
