The world's first intelligent ski centre now launched in Norway
BLIP Systems can today announce the launch of their first commercial installation of the BlipExplorer, a mobile phone application that contains customised rich media content providing new marketing opportunities.
This innovative development now offers companies, brands, organisations alike the opportunity of having one-to-one interactive communication with their target audience through their mobile phones.
The BlipExplorer is a small Java based browser with offline content using Bluetooth technology as the data bearer. BlipNodes, Bluetooth Access Points, transfer the application and updates the content. The BlipNodes are controlled by a central BlipZones server, which contains a complete Content Management System, database functionality and BlipExplorer download service. The application is therefore one element of a complete Bluetooth network solution.
The application platform is available through BlipZones software. It is a general application, which is built in the Content Management Systems of BlipZones. Here it is possible to create your own content on the platform with 'live' pre-view screen of the application. It is a very simple process to achieve a mobile phone application as a tailored marketing tool. The application even has a message in-box through which relevant content-rich messages/files can be transferred to the user, such as special offers, changes to schedule & message board information.
The Blip Explorer application has been deployed as a marketing tool at Vrådal Panorama Skicenter, Norway - making it the world's first 'intelligent' ski centre. The Vrådal application is an alternative to paper brochures and includes further relevant information that visitors would find interesting throughout their visit and upon their return home. This specific application is provided free-of-charge to the visitors and includes information such as:
- Practical Info: Contact details for medics, transportation, police & more
- Ski Centre: Ski Lift/transport information, ski renting, information on slopes etc.
- Ski School: Information about the groups, prices and registration
- Shopping: Listing of shops, opening hours and location
- Entertainment: Interactive services such as ski dating & ski java game
The application is delivered and updated via Bluetooth on location at Vrådal or through GPRS, should the visitor wish to receive the application before arrival.
The communication strategy is supported with information upon booking of the holiday and posters on location (example above).

Clients of the project are Innovasjon Norge and Telemarkreiser.
