HOLTSVILLE, N.Y., Jan. 16 -- Symbol Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:SBL) , The Enterprise Mobility Company(TM), today announced new enterprise mobility solutions designed to increase productivity, improve operational efficiencies and enhance the customer experience with real-time access to people, information and business-essential applications. Symbol's new advanced data capture, mobile computing and wireless infrastructure products collectively address customer demands for innovative mobility solutions in the retail, manufacturing, warehouse and distribution, healthcare, field service, public safety, and transportation and logistics industries.
Symbol's new products will be shown at the National Retail Federation's (NRF) 95th Annual Convention & Expo, which is being held from January 15 to 17 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City (Booth #1623).

Redefining Bar Code Scanning
The ability to manage information technology assets in the enterprise is a major concern for IT managers and executive decision makers. Designed to increase productivity, improve efficiencies and lower total cost of ownership, Symbol's new LS4278 Bluetooth(TM) cordless bar code scanner will change the way bar code scanning is implemented in organizations by providing the industry's first cordless scanner to offer full remote management capabilities including discovery of scanning assets and their associated information such as serial number, date of manufacture and firmware version for remote retrieval over a network. The new LS4278 cordless scanner also provides the ability to automate the configuration process, by enabling customers to monitor their scanners and remotely upgrade firmware to support new features. Potential customers include retailers seeking to increase productivity at checkout with advanced scanning features; healthcare facilities for patient bedside information and medication administration; and warehouse and distribution centers to manage and track inventory.
Building upon Symbol's bar code scanning heritage of high performance scan engines, with more than eight million scan engines currently in use in thousands of applications in retail, healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing and many other industries, Symbol also introduced two new scan engines for sale to original equipment manufacturers (OEM). The new SE950 and SE955 scan engines are designed to exceed customer demands for reliability and high performance by incorporating Symbol's patented Liquid Polymer (LP) scan technology. Symbol's innovative SE950 and SE955 scan engines are also enabled with remote scan engine diagnostics and status reporting capability that allows the health and behavior of the scan engine component to be remotely monitored to effectively maximize system performance throughout the life of the device.
The LS4278 cordless scanners, as well as the SE950 and SE955 scan engines, are currently available to order globally.
