New Web interface ranks top venues and events within any given location
NEW YORK- The Hotlist (www.TheHotlist.com), the first geo-social aggregator that allows people to see where their friends and networks are, where they've been, and where they will be, today announced plans to integrate the new Facebook Places API with The Hotlist's popular location-based service.
"The Hotlist not only encourages people to be more social and discover new places, it also widens peoples' view of the world, making almost anyone into a social expert for anyplace they desire."
With the addition of Facebook Places to The Hotlist, people will soon be able to check into a Facebook Place via The Hotlist's mobile app, and check-ins to a Facebook Place via other means will be fed back into The Hotlist. This tight integration will lead to significantly more associations of people to venues, furthering The Hotlist's position as the world's largest location-based service in terms of data. The Hotlist already offers the latest on friends' past, present and future social destinations, and can pinpoint the closest active venues and events to the user's current location, anywhere in the world.
"The simple fact that our technology aggregates location-specific data from sites like Facebook, Twitter, Yelp and others is much more valuable to our users than other location-based solutions, as it provides all of the information that's necessary to make the most informed and satisfying social decisions," said Chris Mirabile, co-CEO of The Hotlist. "The new API for Facebook Places will further strengthen The Hotlist's position and value in the location-based service space, and we're excited that more people will be able to access more relevant data no matter where they are."
Because of its geo-social aggregation technology, The Hotlist system today holds the following data:
* Nearly 3 million upcoming events
* Over 48 million people's intentional plans
* 318 million future check ins, at over 919,000 venues throughout the world
The Hotlist also announced today a new Web user interface that provides customizable map-based navigation of popular places and events. People will now be able to view what the world is up to by zooming in or out of major cities to small rural areas, displaying trends and interests for over 82 countries. With its community centric algorithm, The Hotlist can provide an accurate view of global activity at specific times, several weeks into the future.
"Map-based navigation provides an additional dimension of control to our users, who can now discover and take a peek into popular places and events throughout the world. From viewing the chic nightlife scene of NYC's Meat Packing district, to zooming into the small Italian village my parents are from, Hotlist displays everything from wine tastings to tomato festivals," said Gianni Martire, co-CEO of The Hotlist. "The Hotlist not only encourages people to be more social and discover new places, it also widens peoples' view of the world, making almost anyone into a social expert for anyplace they desire."
About The Hotlist
Launched in September 2009, The Hotlist is the first geo-social aggregator that allows people to see where their friends and networks are, where they've been, and where they will be. The platform calculates the popularity of events and venues, offering detailed analytics, ratings and crowd snapshots to streamline social planning. The Hotlist brings together friends' current locations, where they are planning to go and when they'll be there, publicly listed events and up-to-the-minute reviews. Real-time Twitter posts on each venue enable users to check the pulse of the crowd before heading out.
The Hotlist is located in the New York City-sponsored 160 Varick Street Incubator as part of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's business incubator for promising start-ups.
