Kapsys, a specialist in portable GPS devices, has launched the Kapten
for iPhone application, a comprehensive navigation application for use
with the iPhone, and Kapten NG, the smallest pocket-size
multi-transport GPS device on the market.
Following the successful launch of Kapten, the first voice-controlled GPS for use in cities, Kapsys is extending its range of GPS products with its Kapten for iPhone application and its portable Kapten NG. Thanks to this new range of products, Kapsys is extending its multi-transport GPS product offer, helping users find their way around cities whether on foot, or by public transport, car, bicycle or motorcycle. Kapsys's products offer extensive coverage of North America, as well as Western Europe.
For the first time on the market, Kapsys is offering an iPhone navigation application at a highly competitive price. Since such an application is not necessarily required every day, Kapten for iPhone is available on the basis of a monthly subscription rate at $7.99 for unlimited use over a 30-day period, which can be renewed at will. Kapten for iPhone also offers the option of transferring to a permanent license via the in-application purchase mechanism, for $74.99.
Kapsys has also launched the innovative Kapten NG, the smallest pocket-size multi-transport GPS device on the market. Because of its compact size (H100 mm x L55 mm x W13 mm) and weight (90 g), the Kapten NG can be carried inside the user's pocket. Its multi-transport functionality is suitable for navigation on foot, with or without the use of public transport, as well as driving or cycling.
The Kapten for iPhone application is on sale as of today through Apple's online iTunes App Store. Two versions are available: one for the United States/Canada and one for Western Europe. These applications will turn any 3G or 3GS iPhone into a true multi-transport navigator, usable in a multitude of geographic areas.
The main functionalities offered by this application include multi-transport navigation, unique coverage of public transport (underground, suburban trains and trams), genuine voice guidance and extensive visual displays, and "Ktag" creation for tagging and sharing favorite locations.
The Kapten for iPhone North America application includes a map of the U.S. and Canada. It costs $7.99 for a monthly subscription and $74.99 for a permanent license.
The Kapten for iPhone Western Europe application covers 22 countries and territories - Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the Vatican. It costs $7.99 for a renewable monthly subscription and $74.99 for a permanent license.
Kapten NG offers the following functionalities: multi-transport navigation in a pocket-size format, unique coverage of public transport (underground, suburban trains and trams), which can be used with pedestrian navigation, genuine voice guidance and extensive visual displays, and Ktag creation to record favorite locations. Kapten NG has been available as of February 2010. Kapten NG North America includes a map of the USA and Canada and retails at $224.90.
The cartography behind these applications has been developed by TeleAtlas. The Kapten for iPhone application, as well as Kapten NG and Kapten models, are available for testing by members of the press.
