World's largest DRAM manufacturer is improving the semiconductor factory work flow with Ekahau RTLS solution
Saratoga, CA - December 2nd, 2005 - Ekahau Inc. today announced that Hynix Semiconductor Inc., the leading supplier of Dynamic Random Access Memory chips (DRAM), has selected the Ekahau RTLS (Real-Time Location System) solution to improve the work flow in its Korean factory. Workers at this factory carry Wi-Fi-enabled computers onto which the Ekahau RTLS system is integrated to provide real-time location information, as well as history of the factory staff and asset movements. By incorporating a location solution into its operations, Hynix factory management is able to create savings and improve efficiency through a better workflow and timely personnel dispatching process.
Ekahau RTLS provides accurate and real-time location information of mobile enterprise assets and people, indoors and outdoors. Ekahau system can track mobile assets and people either by using the Ekahau T201 Wi-Fi location tag attached to the person or object, or tracking any device such as laptop and PDA, using an internal Wi-Fi radio for wireless communication. Unlike competing solutions, Ekahau RTLS can leverage the existing enterprise Wi-Fi access points as the wireless infrastructure, and can be therefore deployed as a software-only solution.
Through the merger with LG Semiconductor in 1999, Hynix Semiconductor now has the largest DRAM production capacity in the world. "As the Hynix facility is already using Wi-Fi network for data communication, adding Ekahau's location solution on top of the existing wireless infrastructure was an easy task," said Youngsang Hwang, president and CEO of AirQuay Ltd, an Ekahau certified VAR partner who was installing the system. "Now the factory management can find the right person for the right task immediately, they can improve the production process, which allows them to increase factory throughput. The ability to do this is only possible with the Ekahau RTLS, which provides a real-time visibility to the manufacturing process and answers the questions such as: where are the people, assets and bottlenecks?", Mr Hwang adds. "The Ekahau SW API (Application Programmers Interface) was very simple
to use to build this application for Hynix, which is now streamlining the factory workflows and storing the location history in MS SQL database."
"The Hynix installation is a good example of how Ekahau's business is rapidly growing in the Asian market," said Jarmo Ikonen, sales director for Ekahau EMEA/APAC. "In Asia, Wi-Fi is getting a strong foothold, and its success is taking Ekahau to several new industry sectors, such as semiconductor manufacturing."
