Digital Angel's SARBE Unit Awarded Contract to Supply Personal Locator Beacons to Republic of Singapore Air Force
SO. ST. PAUL, Minn.--Digital Angel (NASDAQ: DIGA), an advanced technology company in the field of animal identification and emergency identification solutions, announced today that its SARBE unit has been awarded a contract to supply latest-generation Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) to the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF).
The SARBE 6-406G equipment to be provided to the RSAF will replace their current fleet of SARBE 6 PLBs that have become obsolete due to changes in the satellite monitoring system. This initial contract of approximately $100,000 represents just a portion of the total projected demand from the RSAF, which is expected to exceed $2 million over the next two years.
Joseph J. Grillo, Chief Executive Officer of Digital Angel, commented, "We are proud of the fact that another advanced air force is upgrading to the latest generation of SARBE equipment. The SARBE 6-406G represents a significant step forward in improving the safety of the pilots and air crew of the Republic of Singapore Air Force. RSAF pilots and air crew have been equipped with SARBE PLBs for several decades, during which time they have proved to be highly reliable products that are robust enough to survive the harsh environments routinely experienced in the line of duty."
PLBs represent a key component of personal survival equipment carried by aircrew of fast jet, transport and helicopter aircraft. In the event of aircrew having to abandon their aircraft the SARBE 6-406G is activated to transmit a distress message containing the exact GPS coordinates and identity of the survivor. The distress signal is received by the COSPAS-SARSAT global satellite network which then alerts the rescue authorities.
