IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 15 -- u-Nav Microelectronics, developer of the world's smallest and ultra low power Global Positioning System (GPS) chipsets, today announced the successful implementation of a single-chip GPS receiver.
This true monolithic GPS receiver is accomplished by combining u-Nav's all CMOS high performance RFIC core with its 3rd generation baseband IC core to form a true single-die GPS receiver. A new generation search engine has been added to support high sensitivity assisted GPS signal acquisition well beyond the levels specified in both the IS-801 and 3GPP standards.
According to Pete Fowler, u-Nav VP of Sales and Marketing, "This is a significant accomplishment for both u-Nav and the GPS industry as it establishes new cost, size and performance milestones for GPS semiconductors. This single-chip GPS receiver has been designed specifically to meet the aggressive cost, power, performance, and size demands of the cellular and high volume consumer electronics industries."
The single-chip GPS receiver will utilize u-Nav's Orion v2.0 software which provides support for conventional GPS operation as well as synchronous (IS-801 and 3GPP2) and asynchronous (3GPP) assisted GPS. Sampling of the single-chip GPS receiver is planned for the end of Q4-05 with production slated for the first half of 2006. For more information or for a demonstration please contact u-Nav Microelectronics Corporation.
