New IP Locator Object identifies an Internet user's geographic location without invading visitor's privacy
RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. (November 17, 2009) - Melissa Data, (www.melissadata.com), a provider of data quality and data enrichment solutions, announced today a new solution that allows users to identify where Internet visitors are coming from to help increase click-through and sales. The new IP Locator Object, which is available as either an API or as a Web service, helps companies identify an Internet user's geographical location, including country, region, city, lat/long, ZIP CodeT, ISP and domain name, all without invading, or being perceived as invading, the visitor's privacy.
Armed with the valuable geographic information IP Locator Object provides, e-commerce businesses can determine where potential customers are, pre-populate country code on forms, display different language and reduce credit card fraud based on geographic location. The tool also helps in the fight against illegal spammers and hackers filtering access from visitors who come from countries which are not serviced by the business.
IP Locator Object is available as a multiplatform API for Windows, Linux, Solaris, AIX and HPUX. Or customers can choose the Web services version, which is operating system and programming language neutral, and supports multiple protocols including SOAP, XML, and REST.
IP Locator Object is updated quarterly with data for over 240 different countries, including a high percentage of coverage for the U.S., Europe, Asian, and Pacific Islands.
"Finally there is an accurate and easy solution for targeting where Internet visitors are coming from," said Gary Van Roekel, chief operating office for Melissa Data. "It is hard to know your customer when they are entering your business online, but our new IP Locator Object solution helps improve that one-to-one relationship by providing the right knowledge so that our customers can service their customers more effectively and efficiently."
