Leading Marine Retailer Offers Professional-Level Chartplotters at
Recreational Prices
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cobra
Electronics (Nasdaq: COBR), a leading manufacturer of navigation and
communication products, today announced the launch of two new marine GPS
portable navigation units, the MC 600Ci and the MC 600Cx, signaling a new
direction for Cobra's marine line. The navigation devices, which will be
available at marine retailers in early 2006, are being unveiled this week at
the Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS).
"Cobra knows your vehicle -- be it your car or your boat," said Tony
Mirabelli, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Cobra Electronics.
"The growth of our marine category since its launch last year, combined with
our experience in in-car portable navigation devices, made our transition from
land to sea a natural one. We've taken our mobile navigation expertise and
applied it to the chartplotters we're announcing today."
For the MC 600 series, Cobra offers industry-leading features, such as:
-- Cobra's exclusive iASAP(TM) GPS technology, which provides fast GPS
position locking and retention
-- A six-inch color screen with anti-reflective coating - the largest in
class at the MC 600 series' price point
-- Sunlight and NightWatch(TM) modes to ensure maximum visibility -
whether navigating in the glaring midday sun or the darkest night
-- New C-MAP NT MAX(TM) NMEA award winning charts
-- Easy to operate with a user-friendly welcome page
-- Easy-to-use demo pages
-- In the MC 600Ci, an internal iASAP(TM) GPS antenna with a 12v DC
accessory port adapter allowing for plug-and-navigate installation
-- In the MC 600Cx, an external antenna and flush mounting accessories
Advanced MC 600 series functionality, enabled with the use of a C-MAP NT
MAX(TM) C Card, includes: The MAX(TM) anti-grounding feature; embedded aerial
photographs of marina and harbor entrances; and dynamic current arrows that
indicate the direction and speed of tidal currents. These features are among
the latest in marine GPS software and are available only in products using the
new C-MAP NT MAX(TM) generation charts.
More advanced features can also be attained by combining the MC 600 series
with the sonar performance of the CobraMarine(TM) MF 2500 Fishfinder --
creating one of the most sophisticated marine GPS portable navigation systems
available. In addition, the MC 600 series will easily interface with the
popular CobraMarine(TM) VHF radios for DSC emergency calling.
"Cobra has designed professional-level marine navigation devices at
recreational prices," said Mirabelli. "With the launch of the MC 600 series,
Cobra is offering a line of chartplotters that provide superior performance
and design, continuing the tradition of our marine line of products."
Other key MC 600 series features include 3D Mapping, a submersible
waterproof rating, tilt and swivel mounting brackets, removable face plates,
route check, analog-style speedometer, customizable data boxes, anchor drag
and arrival and off-course alarms.
The MC 600Cx, featuring an external antenna and flush mounting options,
will have a MSRP of $699.99 and the MC 600Ci, featuring an internal iASAP(TM)
GPS antenna, will have a MSRP of $649.99. Visit http://www.cobra.com for more
