London 25th August 2009: Today OMTP, the operator backed mobile recommendations organisation, announced that its 5th BONDI Codefest would be hosted in Edinburgh in partnership with Wireless Innovation.
Representative developers from leading mobile operators including Telecom Italia, T-Mobile and Telefonica, will unite in the innovation capital to discuss and create specific code for future mobile applications.
Post the Edinburgh Fringe season of entertainment and laughter, the week commencing 31st August kicks off with BONDI being a topic within a developer focussed Mobile Monday event. The Codefest is then scheduled to take place from the 1st to the 4th of September at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society. Partnering with Wireless Innovation, Scotland's national initiative for the wireless and mobile sector which is providing support to SMEs and partners working in this dynamic sector, the OMTP Codefest gathers together global developers to work on the Reference Implementation of BONDI. The week then closes with a BarCamp event demonstrating that BONDI is playing a major part in the complete mobile development community.
Since its launch last year, the successful BONDI initiative has gathered immense support. The initiative provides a standardised set of interfaces for web developers to access native capabilities on mobile devices. These interfaces are essential in providing the consistency necessary to enable a vision of defragmented harmony across mobile devices. BONDI also provides the security features which are essential in protecting the user from potential abuse from malicious web software.
Wireless Innovation sees Codefest as an instrumental annual event which helps drive open source collaboration in the mobile community. Scotland is a hub of innovation and is home to some of the leading SMEs developing state-of-the-applications and content. The Wireless Innovation initiative provides market research, product development and sector specific business advice to help companies establish themselves in this market and accelerate their business to become high growth businesses. Some leading examples include Mobiqa, Rapid Mobile, Ciqual and TenBu Technologies.
"The Codefest events are a key part of the development programme for the BONDI initiative," said Tim Raby, CEO, OMTP. "While these are working events, the developers and participants get to interact and network with like-minded organisations. With Mobile Monday and BarCamp events sandwiching Codefest, mobile and telecom related companies within Edinburgh and the surrounding Lothians have an opportunity to become involved with discussions that will play a part in shaping the future of mobile devices and applications."
"Scotland is delighted to be host to this year's Codefest. There is a lot of exciting new innovation being developed in Scotland so we believe the partners will be overwhelmed with the new technologies they will see at Codefest," said Alisdair Gunn, Senior Innovation Manager at Wireless Innovation.
