Another edition of the weekly location-technology newsletter, LBSZone Alert was released today...
Welcome once again as we kick off the week with a feature on social
media - seems everyone is interested in this hot topic so why not ride
the gravy train! In this feature we offer up some tips (10 of them to
be exact) on how a business can use Twitter to secure a competitive advantage.
Twitter alone will not be your savior, however, there's no doubt that
the social service can complement a business' marketing, support, and
sales channels. On to news as kudos go out to Trimble as the company
has announced their Outdoors tracking application for the iPhone - Trimble AllSport.
The app reminds me a little of Nokia Sports Tracker, although Trimble
has jumped feet first into B2C and rolled out a commercial application
- something Nokia has failed at miserably! On the Android front,
Skyhook wireless has announced two business partners using the
company's location provisioning. The first app, Find Starbucks is a simple location search app that finds Starbucks coffee shops nearest to the user. The second app is Apot, by adlib Ltd., a simple Twitter client
that allows users to post updates to their Twitter accounts. finally,
LBS developers might wish to look at golf as a sector to target... why?
Just this week, GolfLogix' New iPhone Golf GPS Application
has made it to the iTunes Top 10 List. With the GolfLogix iPhone golf
GPS application golfers get convenient distances to the front, center
and back of the greens as well as layups and major hazards on more than
24,000 golf courses worldwide - seems Golf and the iPhone with GPS are
made for each other! Have a great week all and remember to check out
