Oakland, CA July 6, 2009 -- Integrity Logic today announced the release
of Geology CA, the first GIS (Geographic Information System) for the
iPhone platform.
This
initial release focuses on the geology of California, and contains 19
layers of information, which can be superimposed, mixed and rearranged
in any desired combination.
"Apple's iPhone is a perfect platform for the exploration of
geographic data," said Max Tardiveau, president and founder of
Integrity Logic. "With a built-in GPS and an advanced multi-touch
interface, it's a whole new way to drill into large amounts of
information, and you can have it with you anywhere, even in the field.
It's not just interesting and useful, it's actually fun to use."
The application packs a surprising amount of information in a relatively small footprint:
- complete geological map from the U.S. Geological Service
- states outline of California and adjacent states
- land elevation from NASA
- ocean bathymetry from the U.S. Geological Service
- all 3,156 California earthquakes in recorded history with a magnitude of
4.0 or greater
- recent faults and plate boundaries
- county lines, USGS quadrangles, townships and ranges
- urban areas, hydrological features
- cities, roads and railroad tracks
- active and abandonned mines and quarries
- almost 2,500 potassium/argon dates
Geology CA is a completely self-contained application, and does
not require any Internet access. This is critical for anyone who needs
access to this information when out of cellular range, in the field.
It can use the iPhone and iPod's built-in GPS, and can also
capture high-definitions maps, which can be retrieved from the device's
photo album.
The application is available immediately in the Apple App Store and is priced for a limited time at $4.99.
