LONDON, June 23 -- LocatioNet Systems Ltd. has announced today their
collaboration with Huawei to include LocatioNet's "amAze" GPS
navigation service on Huawei's new GPS-enabled mobile handsets.
According to the agreement, the amAze application will be pre-installed by Huawei on its new GPS-enabled handsets. Users of the Huawei handsets will gain immediate access to the amAze navigation service with a wide coverage of rich maps around the globe.
The unique ad-funded model supported by amAze will allow the Huawei handsets owners the access to the most economical navigation service available in the market today.
Based on the internal GPS receiver in the handset, users would be able to use amAze to get turn-by-turn voice-guided navigation in many countries around the globe. They would be able to view and navigate over detailed maps, high-resolution satellite imagery in over 200 large cities around the world, to view weather conditions, to search for points of interest, to search in local directories and more.
"We are very excited to be selected by Huawei as their navigation application partner," said Meir Dan, CEO of LocatioNet. "It is yet another step in the fast evolution of GPS navigation services on mobile phones, thanks to the integration of GPS receivers into the handsets. As part of this evolution, every mobile user can have wider access not only to pure navigation services but also to a vast amount of geographical data on a worldwide basis that is made available via the wireless network. There is no need to purchase expensive dedicated personal navigation devices (PND), and there is no need to periodically update the maps. Everything is conveniently available on the mobile handset anywhere, anytime and with the most updated content that is coming in real-time from the main service servers."
Since its first soft launch some two years ago, amAze managed to become the most used free, ad-funded navigation service for mass market mobile phones. The service supports over 500 handsets with Java and Windows Mobile versions. Android and iPhone versions will be released later this year as well.
The amAze service is flexible enough to be launched under different brands, to support multiple languages and to be offered under various business models. The service-rich features combined with its flexible business model made it the solution of choice for several mobile operators and for users all around the world.
