New Developer Program Enables Mobile OEMs and Developers to Create Compelling Experiences for Consumers Worldwide
TORONTO-- Shortcovers by Indigo Books & Music, Inc. (TSX:IDG), a digital destination that enables people to discover and experience their next great read on the mobile devices they already own, today announced a new developer program for mobile OEMs and developers. This new program gives developers around the world the ability to leverage Shortcovers' content, storefront, reader, and payment system on any new or existing smartphone, netbook, eReader or integrated application.
In a market that is undergoing rapid change, mobile OEMs and developers who want to offer digital books, magazines, newspapers and compelling experiences for consumers will be able to develop their own applications quickly based on Shortcovers' SDK.
In a month since Shortcovers' initial launch, visitors from more than 150 countries have downloaded and used Shortcovers' mobile applications for iPhone, BlackBerry and Android.
"We are committed to the vision that people can read digitally on any device, anytime, anywhere, and are lowering the barrier to entry for mobile OEMs and application developers around the world," said Michael Serbinis, CIO & EVP of Indigo Books & Music. "They can now build and market their own devices that automatically connect to great content, giving consumers the option to read on any device they choose. OEMs and developers can also build great new applications for Shortcovers customers and readers everywhere."
The Shortcovers' Developer Program includes:
* Open Interfaces (APIs)
* Mobile Software Development Kit (SDK)
* Developer Forums
Beginning today, developers can apply at www.shortcovers.com/developer to participate in the program. Over the next two months, Shortcovers' will take an active role in helping mobile device OEMs and developers to create applications and leverage Shortcovers on their platforms. Developers will be able to interact with the Shortcovers development team, and give feedback on the entire process. The program will formally launch on June 1, 2009.
