Westwood One's Metro Traffic Goes Live with the Most Comprehensive Video Traffic Information Network in the Country
New York, NY - February 25, 2009 - Westwood One, Inc. (WWON:OB) today announced that its Metro Traffic division has gone live with a national traffic video network from TrafficLand, providing its traffic reporters access to over 5,000 live video cameras 24/7, 365 days a year. The TrafficLand video network, combined with Metro Traffic's extensive traffic incident data, speed and flow information, and over 1,000 experienced traffic reporters and anchors, gives Metro Traffic's customers the most comprehensive traffic product in the industry.
"Our mission is to provide our broadcast affiliates with the most accurate, up-to-the-minute traffic reports in their markets," said Steve Kalin, President, Metro Traffic. "With TrafficLand's video network, we continue to integrate the most advanced technology, tools and content available into our traffic products and services, and strengthen our leadership position in traffic information that we have held for over 30 years."
The TrafficLand Video Distribution SystemT (VDS), now in use at Metro Traffic Operations Centers, aggregates video from state and local Department of Transportation cameras nationwide. The system was originally designed for DOT personnel to monitor traffic flow and first responders to increase incident awareness and response effectiveness. By aggregating video from over 5,000 cameras, Metro Traffic reporters can track roadways simultaneously in their markets. They can also create "video catalogs" of the most highly traveled routes and monitor them at peak traffic times to give commuters the best, most up-to-date information about how to avoid traffic problems.
"VDS is a powerful tool that will help Metro Traffic report on traffic incidents and their impact," said Larry Nelson, TrafficLand's Founder and CEO. "No other company aggregates live traffic video from as many cameras as TrafficLand to deliver the big picture of comprehensive traffic conditions across entire markets."
