Pointer Telocation Tracking Units Integrate With Garmin GPS Navigation
Systems To Deliver Enhanced Communication and Navigation Capabilities
CellocatorT units integrated with Garmin's in-car satellite navigation allows for bidirectional visual communication between a fleet control center and the driver
Rosh HaAyin, Israel, February 24, 2009 - Pointer Telocation Ltd., (Nasdaq Capital Market: PNTR, Tel-Aviv Stock Exchange: PNTR) - a leading AVL (Automatic Vehicle Location) solutions provider for fleet management, car and driver safety, public safety, roadside assistance, vehicle security and asset management, announced today that the company's CellocatorT Compact tracking units can now be integrated with Garmin Ltd. in-car GPS navigation systems, via the Garmin Fleet Management Interface.
This integration delivers high-end navigation and enhanced communication capabilities between fleet managers and their drivers. Using the capabilities of the CellocatorT Compact Fleet unit, a control center can send a text message to the vehicle with the integrated system relaying the message to the screen. The driver can then respond to the message in a variety of ways, allowing for two-way communication and eliminating the need for the use of a mobile phone.
The communication features also allow for enhanced navigation assistance and control. For example, facing a list of destinations that fleet managers must coordinate on a particular day, the control center can coordinate - via the unit's location and navigation capabilities - the best route optimization for drivers arriving at their destinations, as well as providing the current location of each of their drivers. When the manager selects a destination from the list, the control center automatically updates the driver as to his next task. The Garmin unit presents a preferred route, and passes information about estimated time or arrival, as well as other destination details, to the manager.
The mechanism can be further programmed to automatically detect when the vehicle has arrived at a requested stop, and alert the fleet manager accordingly. The driver can then select and set off for the next destination, with the fleet manager being updated automatically.
Israel Ronn, General Manager of Cellocator, the Product Division of Pointer Telocation, said, "Through the integration of our tracking units with the GPS navigation capabilities of Garmin, a leader in the navigation industry, we are continuing to expand our offers to fleet managers around the world. Combining superior location awareness and navigation with enhanced updated communication options, Pointer Telocation is continuing to provide top tracking technology products and services."
Pointer Telocation will be demonstrating its technology at the upcoming CeBIT 2009 conference in Hannover, Germany. To schedule a meeting at the show, or a briefing via telephone, please contact Jason Silberman at
