Location services gets tremendous buzz with the iPhone, Nokia and
Blackberry smartphones with gps and recently Android. But most people owns
usual phones. And that is one key advantage of Locify (http://www.locify.com). It works on most phones.
The second key point is that Locify does not introduce own services -
instead enables anyone to create and distribute their own. So think about Panoramio, AccuWeather, Eventful, Wikipedia, Twitter and others (we are
not affiliated with them) - all enhanced with location and in one application
(and all currently done and packed with Locify). Do you want create your one? No
problem, services are done in xhtml - as usual mobile web pages.
Let me add just very, very short list of Locify features: multiple
zoomable maps with overlays, small xhtml browser with ability to acquire and
send to the server user's location with usual request for the page, send SMS
with actual position, synchronization.
And of course - it's free. For users, for content creators, for all.
That's it. And since today - open sourced.
Maybe you wonder why we released Locify as open source in the time we are
in searching (unsuccessfully) for investor or angel and we've run out of seed
money. Does it means that we give more than 1 year of work of 3 developers to
open source because we close the door? NO! Contrary is the case. I share
a couple of thought on that (not just on open source) here,
if you are interested Comments welcome.
