LAS VEGAS -- Jan 12, 2009 Unify4LifeT, the developers of smart home
applications, today announced Garage|ShadowT, an innovative product
that enables people to use their BlackBerryr smartphones from Research
In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM), to open their garage doors.
Unify4Life has responded to a recent customer survey, where 1 in 3 respondents indicated they wanted to control their garage door from a BlackBerry smartphone. People view the capability as convenient and especially beneficial if out for a walk, cycling or driving a motorcycle.
"We envision and are enabling, a day in the near future, when a BlackBerryr smartphone will interact with and control any home or office product a customer desires," said Mike Nykoluk, founder and chairman of Unify4LifeT. "Leveraging the BlackBerry platform enabled us to provide customers a convenient, cost effective, secure, and easy to use garage door remote."
"The Unify4Life Garage|Shadow is a great example of the truly wonderful innovations being built on the BlackBerry platform," said Jeff McDowell, Vice President, Global Alliances at Research in Motion. "Customers identified a possible use for their smartphones and Unify4Life was able to give them that capability in a very short timeframe on the BlackBerry platform."
The Garage|ShadowT allows you to open, close and stop your garage door from within your car, on your bike, coming back from walking your dog or if you are just doing work around the house. Activating the "Automatic Open" feature enables your garage door to open as soon as your garage is in sight. Now all members of the family with the BlackBerry smartphone can enjoy their own personal garage door remote. The application will be available in April for under $40.00 and work with a wide variety of BlackBerry smartphones, including the BlackBerryr BoldT, BlackBerryr StormT, and all Black Berryr CurveT, BlackBerryr PearlT and BlackBerryr 8800T series smartphones.
