COVINGTON, La., Oct. 5 -- New Orleans based Axonn L.L.C. www.axonn.com supplies its battery powered GPS telemetry device, the AXTracker, to customers around the world. AXTrackers report the location and status of mobile assets in the deserts of the Middle East and keep tabs on trucks on the motorways of Europe and highways of North America.
AXTracker enables fleet management and theft recovery; the device has even been instrumental in breaking up a major theft ring in California, and now, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the versatile yet robust AXTracker has found a role in disaster relief in Axonn's own back yard; New Orleans and the Gulf Coast.
Despite being displaced from Axonn's headquarters in New Orleans, Axonn began taking orders and shipping product to Orbit One Communications (OOC) www.orbit-one.com within days of Hurricane Katrina. OOC holds exclusive distribution rights to the AXTracker for the emergency response market. Through OOC, relief agencies are employing the AXTracker to track important mobile assets such as generators, trailers, supply containers and heavy machinery making the relief operation more streamlined and efficient and improving recoverability of assets for future disaster relief.
Axonn shipped thousands of AXTrackers in the month following the hurricane and is preparing to ship and support thousands more as recovery in the affected areas progresses. "I am proud of Axonn, despite the many challenges and personal property loss that we faced, Axonn folks were there to assist our customers. There is a satisfaction in knowing that an Axonn product can contribute to the recovery of our own community," stated Bob Olsavsky, General Manager of Axonn.
Before the storm, during the storm and after the storm, the AXTracker operated in the field providing value to logistics managers. "Data application partners, such as Orbit One, are instrumental in providing the integrated solutions that demonstrate the value of the technology and product," stated Gary Naden, vice president of Axonn, "their hard work coupled with the products we produce bring real value for the end-user, saving money and more importantly, saving lives."
Axonn has relocated its offices to Covington, Louisiana just north of Lake Pontchartrain and less than 40 miles from its original location.
About Axonn: Axonn creates wireless data acquisition and monitoring products and solutions.
