Nokia Friend View is a location and micro-blogging service that
helps you stay in touch with your close friends. It lets you share
where you are and how you feel from home, work, or on the go. With
Friend View it is easy to meet up at only a moments notice.
Testing the Application...
I managed to find a bit of time to download and test the friendView application on a Nokia N82. First I grabbed the application from here. Installation was simple and painless. In order to activate it though you will require an Ovi account and username.
The FriendView application now available from my Application folder
Setting preferences in the setup - users can restrict location sharing if desired
once I post a message I can see my location, as can my "friends"
conversations with my friends. Click on one of the conversations and the map will update to their location... cool!
a friend view - i can comment on his notes
my comment then displayed.
You can get FriendView and test it for youself by jumping to the Nokia Beta Labs FriendView page The application has been tested with Nokia 5320 XpressMusic, 6110 Navigator, 6210 Navigator,
N95, N95 8GB, N82, N96, E71, E90, N80 and E61. Should work on all Nokia
devices based on S60 3rd edition.
I found the app very simple and friendly to use. When someone wants to get connected as a friend a message appears under your options and you'll have the option to accept or refuse friend requests. The application itself I find is very attractive with pleasant little graphics and icons, the maps appearing in the background are very visually appealing and make it quite fun. When you click on different friend conversation bubbles (arrow up or down) the map in the background will quickly change to reflect that friend's location... way cool! So far the only annoyance I found was the constant poping up of a certificate message which I had to accept. Otherwise, I just need a few more friends to get rolling! You can friend me by contacting gisuser... have fun!
