Written by Locify
Wednesday, 29 October 2008
Locify (http://www.locify.com) - open framework for creation of location enhanced services - releases new version with maps and routes support. Experimental support for maps from previous version was fine- tuned and currently users can explore their location or selected waypoints (and newly routes) on Google maps, Yahoo maps, Microsoft maps or OpenStreetMaps. Locify supports all map providers with mapserver or compatible map serving system.
Developers can make use of maps very easy - the same way as other
functions on Locify - just by xhtml coding.
Changes from previous version:
* Offline Route Recording
* Routes management, service can send a route
* Navigation along the route
* Viewing route on the maps
* Map UI improvements - scale, better zooming, stylus support
* New possibilities for developers
* More user-friendly installation for Windows Mobile
* Better support for BlackBerry
* New services: Zvents, Upcoming
In the pipeline for the next release is offline map support. Our aim
is to be compatible with most of the currently available custom maps
created by various different tools.
Note: Locify is written in Java - it gives it broadest
phone support on the market.
More about Locify:
Locify (http://www.locify.com) develops framework for location based
services (LBS). Locify consists of mobile client application, open
application directory and supporting server side tools.
Locify is straightforward for the users: one install (free), service
discovery of existing location services and installation of them,
using various methods for "localization" (GPS, address input, use of
previously stored place), which giver opportunity not only to express
"I am Here" but even "I am interested in There", and more.
Currently a bunch of services are available: search nearby places from
Wikipedia, events from Eventful, Zvents or Upcoming, seek for
geocaches in the neighborhood, update their status on twitter or
Fireeagle, display nearby photos from Panoramio and more.
Creation of mobile service enhanced by location is with Locify as easy
as writing web pages. Developers can use in their web applications a
lot of extended function nearly without coding: online maps (Google,
Yahoo, Microsoft, Openstreetmaps), geocoding, navigation and route
recording between others. And existing mobile sites can add location
features virtually within seconds and transparently to usual browsers
(see short presentation about it on http://www.locify.com/documentation/example-videos
).
Developing application for Locify is free, the same as submitting
application to the Locify open application directory. This directory
is searchable from Locify mobile client and user can immediately add
selected application to Locify client dashboard.
Locify mobile client is written in Java. That gives Locify one of the
broadest phone support on the market - it works not only on the
smartphones (Symbian, UIQ and Windows Mobile) but on the usual phones.
Locify can be used with built-in GPS, GPS module connected to the
phone or without GPS at all (use has to specify his location by
address or selecting one of the stored places).
Locify is free for users and developers. Locify offers customization
and branding for various types of clients (operators, portals, media
companies etc.)
