Navigable Map Provides Automotive-Grade Quality to Portable and Mobile Devices
CHICAGO, Oct. 15 -- NAVTEQ, a leading global provider of digital map data for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, has announced release of navigable map coverage in Argentina. The initial NAVTEQ Map for Argentina includes over 200,000 km of road network across the entire country and up to 260 attributes per road segment. These road attributes enable navigable solutions to support accurate route guidance. Examples include information on direction of travel, number of lanes, speed limits, and turn restrictions.
Other map attributes support end-user satisfaction with the functionality of the navigation device -- such as broad inclusion of addresses, as well as over 3,600 named city or hamlets, both of which optimize ease of use when selecting the destination.
NAVTEQ local geographic analysts are trained on the NAVTEQ global data specification, providing a map that achieves the same quality standards as other NAVTEQ maps. Customers already providing innovative solutions for other regions can quickly and easily integrate their technology to the NAVTEQ Map for Argentina and bring navigation solutions to a new customer base.
"The consumers and businesses that rely on NAVTEQ expect our map to be of the highest standards," stated Eliot Dam, director of product marketing - Latin America, NAVTEQ. "Establishing local operations in the region enables NAVTEQ to understand and incorporate country-specific road network nuances, while maintaining NAVTEQ's global data specification."
Standard, world-wide ISO-certified processes provide customers a reliable and predictable development experience. Distinct to NAVTEQ, these advantages support rapid development of high quality local or exported navigation solutions.
"The increasing adoption of global positioning systems (gps) technology in Argentina creates opportunity for Personal Navigation Devices (PND) and
hand-set manufacturers, as well as telecommunications carriers to develop navigation and location-based services," stated Jim Dineen director and general manager - Latin America, NAVTEQ. "And a proven quality map will be instrumental in fueling the success of these new services and solutions."
The NAVTEQ Map for Argentina represents NAVTEQ's ongoing commitment to the region. In addition to the Argentina map, NAVTEQ's Latin America coverage includes maps for Mexico and Brazil.
