Complete IP-Based Solution Now Available for Deployment in Mobile Operator Networks
ANNAPOLIS, Md. --(Business Wire)-- May 16, 2005 -- TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) (NASDAQ: TSYS), a global leader in wireless data technology, will be demonstrating end-to-end Location-Based solutions at the Mobile Location Services (MLS) Conference on May 17 and 18, 2005, in Barcelona, Spain. These solutions enhance mobile operators' ability to drive incremental data services revenue by monetizing one of the unique aspects of mobile phones - knowing the location of the wireless user. The demonstrations showcase TCS' complete broadband Internet Protocol (IP) location services in Global System for Mobile Communications/ Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (GSM/UMTS) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) networks that deliver precise location with high performance, sub-10 second time to first fix.
The solutions utilize TCS' hosted Assisted Global Positioning System (A-GPS) server location infrastructure, A-GPS-capable handsets, and downloadable handset applications. The location technology, based on the X1 standard, has been commercially deployed in six networks to date, and is enhancing those operators' data services revenue today. The TCS solution also provides seamless migration to the Open Mobile Alliance's (OMA) Secure User Plane (SUPL) protocol.
"TCS' extensive and proven experience in Location-Based Services has contributed to a strong solution for all operators interested in using Location-Based Services to take advantage of their Broadband IP networks today," said Maurice B. Tose, Chairman, President and CEO for TeleCommunication Systems. "By taking the proven X1 solution to wireless operators and providing an easy migration path to emerging standards, TCS provides a solution for mobile operators to realize incremental data revenues using today's commercially available products while minimizing the investment needed to support future standards."
Having deployed the world's first Broadband IP location server, TCS will be demonstrating its proven, complete A-GPS location solution for GSM/UMTS/CDMA operators worldwide. The TCS solution is available as a deployable system within a mobile operator's network or as a hosted service. TCS' hosted Xypoint(R) Location Services can be turned up with carriers in less than 60 days, maximizing the revenue generation from location while minimizing capital investment. The complete TCS package that includes location-based applications for traffic, public and personal safety, fleet management, tracking, and navigation is available today to enable operators to generate LBS revenue and reduce customer churn through the addition of high-value services.
