WASHINGTON, DC The October
edition of the "Wonder of Wireless" (WOW) webcast and the Post Show Highlights webcast from CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment
2008® in San Francisco, produced by CTIA-The Wireless Association®,
are now available for viewing.
The WOW webcast includes several brief videos that highlight a variety of wireless related
topics involving the mobile enterprise, emergency rescues, and significant
public policy milestones. Featured segments in this month's webcast include green wireless solutions for the enterprise, a quick-thinking
police officer, and a look back on 25 remarkable years of wireless.
The "Wireless at Work"
segment of the October WOW webcast explores wireless technology solutions that help businesses reduce carbon
footprints while retaining a competitive edge in the marketplace. Representatives from Nokia Siemens Networks and Better World Telecom
discuss the new trend of going green with wireless, and how this movement
can provide innovative solutions to help the enterprise increase efficiency,
productivity, and environmental sustainability.
In recognition of the 25th Anniversary of the first commercial cellular call on October 13, 1983,
this month's webcast highlights a one-on-one "Insider Interview"
with CTIA President and CEO, Steve Largent, who reflects on the early
days of wireless and shares his thoughts about the evolution of the
industry.
The "Wireless Lifesaver" story recounts the heroic efforts of a fast-acting
off-duty police officer from Virginia who used his cell phone to call
for help while following an impaired driver, and after pulling him over,
the officer's wife was struck by another vehicle.
This month's WOW "Policy Point" examines the need for a national regulatory
framework for wireless in the U.S.
Another element of the October WOW webcast is the #1 U.S. Wireless Moment, as selected by visitors to www.ctia.org;
the first commercial cell phone call placed from Soldier Field in Chicago
on October 13, 1983. This transformational call marked the birth
of an industry and opened the door to a whole new world of possibility
and promise in the wireless marketplace.
The Post Show Highlights webcast from CTIA WIRELESS I.T & Entertainment 2008
in San Francisco showcases extended keynote video excerpts about the
latest wireless hot topics and trends from some of the industry's
top leaders, two of the `founding fathers' of wireless Craig McCaw
and John Stanton, as well as a live focus group of teenagers who talked
about what they want when it comes to wireless. In addition to the keynote highlights,
watch and listen to insider interviews from the CTIA Buzz Zone, show floor stories, informative podcasts, camera phone photos,
and much more.
