OMTP Joins World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) for Secure Mobile Internet

London, UK 15th September 08: OMTP, the mobile operator sponsored
organisation today announced that it has joined the W3C in order to
further the work of its BONDI project, an initiative aimed at opening
up access to mobile device functions securely, to web based services.
Following the announcement of the BONDI initiative, OMTP have joined the World Wide Web Consortium as a member. This membership of W3C will allow OMTP to make submissions directly into the key W3C activities affecting BONDI. These will, for example, include work within the W3C Web Applications working group helping to standardise widgets.
The ability to protect customers from malicious services originating on the web is paramount, as is the consistency of the interfaces for the developer community. By working with W3C, OMTP will be able to help deliver consistency and security and assist in making web services ubiquitous across different handsets.
Tim Raby, Managing Director of OMTP said “W3C activities are vital in driving forward standardisation in the important area of the mobile web. By joining W3C, OMTP and its members will have the ability to more directly influence and provide direction for the W3C Mobile Web Initiatives which relate to our BONDI activities.”
