Another LBSZone Alert has been released... enjoy this edition for the latest developments in Location-based services.
Hello from the Spatial Media LBSzone...
Can you believe it's the end of August already... dang!
With our Euro colleagues all well rested and back from vacation it
looks like it's business as usual, particularly regarding events and
trade shows. If you haven't already done so, you better make you travel
plans to head to San Fran if you want to hit the fall CTIA show -
remember, Navteq and SiRF also have co-located events taking place with
this one (invitation only) so start looking for an invite if that's
your cup of tea! Post CTIA there's the big Symbian event in the UK -
the SmartphoneShow, decarta DevCon takes place in October this year,
and the European Navigation event is scheduled for Oct 7. If those events aren't enough to keep you busy, there's also a special Nokia sponsored Wom World event
next month in Helsinki... I'll actually be at this one so you'll have
to forgive me for missing out on the CTIA show this year. No worries
though, I'm sure I'll have some interesting things to share with you
all when I return in mid-September. Wom World will explore what the
social media is saying about the latest Nokia devices and supported
services - I'll be bringing a North American perspective to the event
as well as opinions and suggestions regarding mobile geotagging and
location provisioning. Please drop me a line if you think there's
anything special I should consider discussing while I'm there!
Moving on to the latest LBS news... great news this week as we've seen
the launch of yet more GPS-enabled devices including the Blackberry
bold via Rogers Wireless (Canada), the Nokia N96 just this week in the
US, as well as the Nokia N85 which boasts "geotagging capabilities" as
well as navigation. Not to be outdone, Nokia also announced the launch
of yet another device this week that sports built A-GPS in the slick,
Nokia N79. It definitely seems like we're finally headed in the right
direction where devices MUST come equipped with GPS and supporting
apps, otherwise the consumer will simply not be interested in them... I
know I wouldn't be! Have a great Labor Day week-end to all!
