Apisphere and Orbital Enterprises Partner on First Location-Aware
Mobile Safety and Security Solution for College Students and Campuses
Berkeley, CA: July 15, 2008 Apisphere, Inc. http://www.apisphere.com, a leading provider of location-awareness services for mobile business applications, today announced a technology partnership with Orbital Enterprises (PINKSHEETS:OBLR), a diversified electronics design and OEM manufacturer, to develop the first location-aware mobile phone designed for emergency notifications and crisis response in the U.S.
Orbital will be integrating Apispheres location-awareness mobile application stacks into its new mobile handsets. The Orbital Navigator 8000 and 9000 series handset is targeted for use by college students and administrators, and will provide users with real-time location-aware information.
The Orbital Navigator devices will leverage Apispheres ProximitySphere technology to provide location-awareness integrated with advanced security features which include full user authentication and 256-bit encryption. These security features will help to support one of the most unique applications for the new device; The Orbital Navigator can be used to locate and protect students during emergency situations. The secure location-awareness capabilities will enable school officials and law enforcement agencies to quickly determine the exact location of a students mobile device for notification and location-tracking purposes during emergencies.
Having geo-location applications on mobile devices must go beyond providing basic GPS directional information. Highly capable mobile devices can be essential in emergency situations to help locate missing students, or to notify students in a specific geographic zone of potential danger should an emergency situation arise on campus, said Bob Meyer, CEO of Orbital Enterprises. Apispheres Geo-Enabled Mobility platform is the perfect solution to support our efforts in developing this unique handset.
To support the development of additional applications for the Orbital Navigator, Apisphere will be opening its API (application program interface) to developers to create innovative new applications that leverage location-awareness for the handset, enhance the value of the Orbital handset, and enable Orbital to sell a truly differentiated solution. Developers will have complete access to Apispheres message broker and location libraries, as well as its integration tool, the Appcelerator SaaS process engine.
