Aalborg, Denmark, has become the first city to offer a Bluetooth location based communication service through mobile phones for citizens and visitors.
In connection with the International Wireless Summit in Aalborg from the 17th to the 22nd of September 2005, an innovative pilot project for usage of mobile phones is launched. The pilot is targeting the participants of the conference and the citizens of Aalborg City, where the users, through their mobile phones, are able to browse through a variety of information, receive messages, special offers and relevant entertainment.
'Live testing of the technology' is the heading of the project, which Blip Systems has developed together with Aalborg University CISS & data logic department and the communication Agency N'volve. Bluetooth is the technology applied to offer users of mobile phones opportunities & features that they currently do not use and without any additional cost for them. The project has been developed to offer the participants & visitors of the International Wireless Summit a truly innovative wireless experience through their mobile phones, but the following phases of the project will have even more opportunities and information to offer the users such as transfers of sound files, video clips and chat.
The project began in June 2005 and offers the users an opportunity to receive an application (interactive programme of the Conference) on their mobile phone, which consists of relevant information about the city and the conference itself. The users will also receive targeted messages and updates during their stay in Aalborg city, where these data transfers will take place at the services are available such as the Airport, the Conference centre and various Hotels such as Helnan Phønix, SAS Radisson, Quality and Hvide Hus. The updates can be changes in the conference programme, the weather forecast, news, and reminders all depending on the information of interest to the users, which was filled in at registration. The project is regarded as the first of its kind and expected to be leading the way for other projects including Bluetooth technology such as "Hot Spot Nord".
The project has been financed by:
Den Obelske Familiefond
Spar Nord Fonden
Aalborg University (CISS)
All the involved parties have contributed financially and supported the project in one way or another including the communication Agency N'volve, Aalborg University and BLIP systems.
